Jury returns $0 verdict following 11-day trial in St. Catharines

Flaherty McCarthy is pleased to share a recent trial success on behalf of one of our insurer clients. Following an 11-day jury trial held from May 12 to 27, 2025, in St. Catharines, Ontario, the jury returned a verdict of $0 after all applicable deductions, fully dismissing the plaintiffs’ claims.

The case arose from a 2020 motor vehicle accident in which the primary plaintiff alleged significant personal injuries and pursued damages. In addition, a Family Law Act claim was advanced for loss of care, guidance, and companionship. The defence team, led by Bruce Chambers and Danielle Ralph, mounted a vigorous defence on liability and damages.

“We are pleased to have secured a result that reflects the evidence and supports our client’s position,” said Chambers. “It’s a testament to the importance of preparation and teamwork,” added Ralph.

The jury’s decision represents a clear and favourable outcome for our client and reaffirms the strength of our trial advocacy. We are proud of the exceptional work done by Bruce and Danielle in securing this result and remain committed to providing strategic and effective representation for our insurer clients across Ontario. Fantastic job, counsel.
